We've built Canterbury around four insurance lines and one principle: do them properly.
Canterbury Insurance DAC is a designated activity company incorporated in Ireland under Companies Registration Office number 248217. Our registered office is at Block 1, Harcourt Centre, Harcourt Street, Dublin 2 — in the heart of Dublin's insurance and financial district.
We were established to fill a specific gap in the European commercial insurance market: medium-sized risks that are too complex for direct retail platforms, but too small or too specialised to get the attention they deserve from the largest global carriers. We write four EU non-life classes — Fire & Natural Forces (Class 8), Other Damage to Property (Class 9), General Liability (Class 13), and Miscellaneous Financial Loss (Class 16) — and we've stayed disciplined about that scope.
Insurance is a promise. The promise is paid out in two places: at the quote stage, where it has to fit the risk, and at the claim stage, where it has to be honoured properly. Everything we do is shaped by those two moments.
We believe in broker distribution because brokers know their clients better than any algorithm. We believe in underwriting discipline because a book that's mispriced today is a problem for everyone tomorrow. And we believe that claims handling is where insurers earn — or lose — their reputation.
To be the carrier brokers reach for when they want a specialist who actually responds — across commercial property, liability, and financial loss risks throughout the European Union.
We're broker-led. Our underwriters are accessible by phone and email, decisions are made by the people you're speaking to, and we don't hide behind portals. We aim to acknowledge submissions within one business day and to turn around indications quickly on risks that fit our appetite.
We're EU-passportable from our Dublin base under the freedom of services regime. That means a single Canterbury policy can respond to risks located across all 27 EU Member States, with one carrier, one set of wordings, and one point of contact.
As a Dublin-based designated activity company writing insurance business, Canterbury Insurance DAC operates within the regulatory framework set by the Central Bank of Ireland and, at the European level, under the Solvency II Directive (2009/138/EC). We maintain capital, governance, reporting, and conduct standards in line with those requirements.

We resist the temptation to write everything. Depth in four lines beats shallow coverage of forty.
Brokers reach a decision-maker, not a queue. We answer the phone and we own the answer.
Underwriting and reserving are conservative. We'd rather decline business than mis-price it.
If we wrote the cover, we pay the claim. Disputes are the exception, not the operating model.
Canterbury's leadership team combines underwriting, claims, regulatory and broker-market experience across decades and jurisdictions.
